The 1998 Minimum Qualifications for Teachers in Medical Institutions Regulations were amended by the Medical Council of India up until June 8, 2017. As per the guidelines:
A postgraduate qualification in the relevant subject, such as an MD, MS, or DNB, is required for consideration for the Assistant Professor position. Furthermore, they ought to have:
- Three years of experience as a junior resident in the relevant field at a medical college that has been approved or recognized.
- A year of experience as a Senior Resident in the relevant field at a medical college that has been approved or recognized.
The following criteria must be met in order for a DNB candidate to be equivalent to an MD or MS under clause 4A of Schedule I:
- Along with the experience obtained during DNB training, three years of experience teaching the subject as a resident, registrar, demonstrator, tutor, or in a role similar to these.
- a year as a Senior Resident in the relevant field at an accredited or approved medical college.
- It is noteworthy to mention that a Senior Resident is an individual who is under 40 years old and pursuing residency in a suitable postgraduate field after earning a PG degree (MD, MS, or DNB).
